Visit Calafia State Park Beach & San Clemente State Beach
Another one of the elite beach spots in San Clemente, Calfia State Beach has everything from concessions, restrooms, and one of the best beaches in the area. Calafia State Beach is a migration ground during the summer months in San Clemente. It's a classic California spot to visit the beach and families return to the beach and California State Park year after year. The beach is backed by a large rock break wall to hold back the high tide throughout the year. Lifeguards do patrol this beach during the summer months when the beach will become very busy. Parking at the beach is metered, or you can use a California State Parks pass. This is the last beach along the San Clemente Beach Trail before you have to step off of the waking and biking path onto the sand. If you wish to continue on the sandy beach, you can walk all the way down past San Meteo point and onto San Onofre State Beach. San O is home of many famous Southern California surf spots including Trestles and Old Mans.
A Great Beach to visit in San Clemente
One of the Busiest Beaches in the Summer
Calafia State Beach is fun for most activities and is not a well know spot for surfing. Waves here are calm although sometimes high-tide can consume much of the beach real estate making it difficult to find a dry spot. This is a great beach for kids and families with on-site restrooms and concessions. Parking and access to the beach is fairly simple making a day trip a breeze. At night this spot is quiet and offers one of the best places in San Clemente to have a bonfire. Just a few minutes walk to the south is the main San Clemente State Beach camping area which is one of the best campsite with a view in Orange County. Campsites on the small plateau overlook the beach and ocean. Facilities at this beach are much nicer than many other campsites making it a great place for an outing with friends, or the family during any part of the year. This beach can be accessed off of I-5 and Cristianitos from the northbound lanes or Ave. Calafia from the south.
Parking at the Calafia State Beach Park
Metered parking is available paid by quarters, or a valid California State Parks pass will allow you to park at this beach. The beach is located just across the train tracks from the parking lots. Additional parking is available, but limited near Calafia Park along Avenida Lobeiro, and is a bit farther of a walk. Pathways will lead down to the main parking lot for the beach where you can cross the tracks onto the sandy beach front.
