SUP - Stand Up Paddle board in San Clemente
Fun and easy for everyone to try!
One of the more recently popular activities that tons of fun. SUPing is done on a very large buoyant surf board, and moving is done with a long paddle stick. SUP is popular just about everywhere in California and can take over calmer parts of the water in the beach cities across the state. SUP is easy and fun for everyone plus it is a great form of exercise. There is not an easier way to get out and enjoy the water than SUP boarding. SUPing is generally done in calmer waters, but is also fun to ride smaller waves like normal surfing.
A great way to spend the day without spending any money. San Clemente and Dana Point have plenty of paths, benches, and beaches to explore. The San Clemente Beach Trail and beaches are a pretty place to quietly enjoy a nice sunny day in Orange County California. A walk, picnic, or day at the beach are all great ways to enjoy some time on the beaches of Southern California.
A fun activity for people who have had some experience sailing, or have at least one friend with some experience. During the summer, the waters around Dana Point are overrun by people boating. It's plenty of fun watching people on the water, but even more fun when you get yourself out there. Smaller sailboats are relatively easy to control and sail around in the bay and can be done with limited to no experience. This is one of the most popular activities in the bay. It's exciting to see the busy bay littered with people sailing about all over the bay. Rentals are by the hour generally and are fun for just a short ride, or for a day. Most businesses let you bring food and beverages on the rentals, although you are responsible for them. Sailing and having a fun lunch on the water is a pastime of many San Clemente natives. Sailing is huge in Southern California.
A catamaran is a type of sailboat with two kayak looking pieces that float the vessel. Catamarans are fun to ride because the platform where you sit is a tarp suspended across the two floats. Cruise about just above the water and look out into the blue water of the bay. Catamarans are a type of sailing that is just a bit different and somewhat more exciting because you are a lot closer to the water. This is a great activity for beginners and those who have been boating before. Just follow instructions and have fun!
There really isn't a way to accurately describe how much fun jet skis are. Cruise about in pairs and have an exciting race on the jet ski! Everyone can laugh and have fun like a kid speeding across the water bouncing about. Just hold on tight and have fun!
Dana Point Harbor
Dana Point Harbor is about a 10-15 minute ride from most places in San Clemente and offers a number of activities that you can do on the Pacific Ocean right in one place. Rentals, tours, and everything you need are all right there. No need to lug bulky boards down to the beach. SUP boards, jet skis, small boats, whale watching tours, and fishing tours all launch out of the harbor. The Pacific is yours if you want to get out on the open ocean, but you can always stay inside the harbor break walls if you want a more relaxed time.
San Clemente Activities
Surfing is hands down, pop up - the best thing to do in San Clemente. There are plenty of spots to rent gear for a great price that are all within walking distance from the beaches. Wetsuits, surfboards, boogie boards, and anything else you need for a fun day at the beach. SUP boards are a little bit harder to transport and carry so renting them at the beach is easier if you don't have a truck or want to be trying things down.
