San Clemente Ocean Games

 

SATURDAY, JULY 15: 7 a.m.-5 p.m.

While the San Clemente Ocean Festival remains on hiatus for 2023 due to staffing issues, those looking for their competitive water sports along the Municipal Pier will get a one-day reprieve this Saturday.

The City of San Clemente is hosting the San Clemente Ocean Games, a single-day event for swimmers, runners, junior lifeguards and multi-sport athletes to compete.

Registration is still open for those interested in competing. The price to register for junior lifeguard events is $30. For the ocean lifeguard events, registration is $60.
To enroll in the open 5K beach run, for ages 9 and up, the cost is $30; $33 for the 1-mile swim; $35 for the run-swim-run; and $60 for the combination of all three above events.
Early-bird registration will remain available until Friday. On-site registration the day of the event Saturday will open at 6 a.m. and close at 1 p.m.

Spotlight: ‘La Havana Madrid’ to Bring Blend of Latin Music, Cultural Storytelling to Mission San Juan Capistrano

Saturday, July 15, 7:30 p.m. -- A summer filled with arts and theater ramps up as the South Coast Repertory (SCR) is set to bring the sounds of mambo and salsa to San Juan Capistrano in its production of La Havana Madrid.

The theater company is putting on the play in the picturesque and historic setting of Mission San Juan Capistrano’s Central Courtyard from Saturday to Aug. 4.

“La Havana Madrid promises an exceptional blend of live music and personal storytelling, all harmonizing with the stunning surroundings of Mission San Juan Capistrano,” SCR’s Artistic Director David Ivers said in a media release. “The characters, songs and narratives populating Sandra Delgado’s beautiful adventure are born out of lived experiences.”
